VDM CALLS OUT BOLT, UBER & INDRIVE OVER CONSTANT PRICE RE-NEGOTIATION
π¦π VDM Takes On Bolt, Uber & InDrive Drivers Over Illegal Fare Renegotiation
A nationwide problem that has gone on for too long β and must now be addressed publicly.
VDM addressed a major issue affecting passengers across Nigeria β the constant renegotiation of fares by Bolt, Uber, InDrive, and other ride-hailing drivers. According to him, this nonsense has continued unchecked for too long, and itβs time for Nigerians and the companies involved to confront it directly.
He referenced a recent incident where a driver picked a passenger from Life Camp to Kuje. The app showed β¦12,000, yet the driver insisted on β¦15,000. This, according to VDM, is the root of the entire problem: the app gives a fixed fare, but drivers still renegotiate outside the app.
VDM questioned whether Bolt, Uber, and InDrive allow renegotiation as an official policy. Because if not, why does it keep happening? Why put a price on the app if drivers will still drag passengers into arguments and threats?
He highlighted how many fights, assaults, and dangerous incidents have happened because of this issue: women beaten, men fighting drivers, harassment, threats β all because of a price clearly written on the app.
VDM emphasized that Nigerians also contribute to the problem. Instead of standing firm and insisting on the app price, many passengers give in β out of fear, stress, or frustration β empowering drivers to continue the behavior.
He explained how enabling bad behavior has damaged the country on every level. From begging on the streets to unsafe habits, citizens continue to reward actions that harm society.
VDM shared a personal story from 2021 where a driver demanded cash instead of transfer. When he refused, the driver returned wearing a military belt and violently threatened him. According to him, too many drivers are aggressive and willing to harm passengers over small issues.
He urged Nigerians to stand firm: βIf the app says β¦5,000, then Iβm paying β¦5,000. If you donβt want it, stop the trip and go.β
He also made it clear that the ride-hailing companies MUST address this publicly. Nigerians deserve clarity β is renegotiation part of the policy or not?
VDM praised the young lady who stood her ground during the recent incident, insisting on paying the app price and refusing to be bullied.
To Nigerians, he issued a firm reminder: The country cannot progress if people keep enabling bad behavior.
And he ended with his signature warning: βDonβt play. If you play, you go learn β and you will learn the hard way.β
