FULANI COMMUNITY CRIES OUT OVER ALLEGED POLICE INJUSTICE IN BENUE

VDM received a painful report yesterday from Fulani residents in the bush area of Ogobia/Ogboju, Otukpo LGA, Benue State. They narrated a disturbing story involving the killing of one of their respected elders and the shocking role the Nigerian Police allegedly played afterward.

According to the community, on Friday, Alhaji Foda — a well-known cattle owner — went into the bush with one of his workers to inspect his cows. Unknown to them, an ambush had already been set. They rode into it and were immediately surrounded by over 10 armed men.

When the attackers pulled out a gun, the worker struggled, broke free, and managed to escape. As he ran, he heard gunshots behind him. He immediately alerted his people.

The community rushed to the nearest military base, and the Nigerian Army followed them into the bush. There, they found the lifeless body of Alhaji Foda. The attackers were still nearby and fled when they saw the soldiers. One suspect was successfully arrested.

The suspect was taken to the Ogoli Divisional Police Station and handed over to the DPO, Musa Mohamed.

But shortly after the soldiers left, the Fulani community received a shocking call: The DPO had released the suspect.

They rushed back to the station to confront him, but his response was dismissive — they had no right to tell him who to arrest or detain.

Later, they received even more disturbing information: Some of Alhaji Foda’s cows were allegedly stolen and taken away after the killing.

VDM was not present, but the community sent him evidence and begged for the matter to be exposed. And even if they didn’t ask, he said he would still speak — because this is about justice and human life.

VDM is calling on:

…to immediately open an investigation into DPO Musa Mohamed of Ogoli Division.

A DPO is meant to protect life, maintain peace, and handle conflicts with fairness. If a murder suspect was truly released under such circumstances, it is a dangerous threat to peace in Benue.

This is how conflicts escalate. This is how war begins.

Places like Benue and Jos must be managed by leaders with intelligence, fairness, and experience in peaceful resolution.

An innocent man was killed. A community is in pain. They deserve justice.

VDM expects a response from the IGP and the Benue State Government. This matter must be investigated.
